Abstract

Netflix, in just over ten years as an audiovisual streaming service, has been one of those responsible for transformations in the production and consumption of the audiovisual culture. An exploratory survey in five news media resulted in a set of news articles about Netflix operations and their effects. Such material was subjected to a mix of techniques from Content Analysis (Bardin, 2016) and Grounded Theory (Tarozzi, 2011) to locate themes, codes and values, aiming at establishing the company's discursive practices that consolidated its business culture representation. The paper also shows how such discourse has been portrayed by the journalistic media, from optimism derived from strategies and promises of change to disappointment and anticipation of crises. Finally, the discussion will then highlight the transformations in audiovisual culture that are effects of such discursive practices over the last few years.
