Time and eternity in Kierkegaard's thought
Keywords:
Time, Eternity, Instant, Contemporaneousness, ExistenceAbstract
The paper intends to show the originality of kierkegaardian thought in the existential analysis of the concepts of time and eternity. Both spiritual categories – which determine the reality of the self as an existent singular being – are dealt with by Kierkegaard in realtion to the instant of free decision, in which the temporal and the eternal are mutually implied and supported. The instant is the total presence of an absolute action, achieved in transcendence and extended in time. In the instant, eternity assumes the concrete character of human existence and free becoming is qualified as personal history. This absolute present, which is both full presence and reality, expresses thus the contemporaneousness of the self with itself, with the Other and the others.Downloads
