Belief, action, and morality
Keywords:
Theory of Action, Moral, Parfit, Taylor, Hegel.Abstract
In this article, the theory of action is approached based on the relationship between belief and action. Human action of moral nature may be related to beliefs, since false beliefs can produce moral errors. Parfit claims that an error is relative to the knowledge of the fact, its evidences, and the possible results of the action. He subsequently emphasizes that moral judgment must be analyzed under all these perspectives. Following Hegel, Taylor understands that action is the result of a purpose, or a subjective will. Our aim, therefore, is to understand the relationship between belief and morality, highlighting the importance of the truth of what is believed for the purpose of having security in the ownership of moral action as correct and avoiding error.
