This article develops an analytical exercise about a news program identity, based on a double movement. First, it promotes a general characterization of the first and – up to 2016 – only edition of Parceiros do MGTV, including general data on topics and editorial choices, confronting it with recurrent ways of informing about the favelas in the Brazilian journalism. Then we observe three of its news stories more closely. The movement between the macro and micro scales let us see that the innovation effort that justifies Parceiros do MGTV was offset by the traditional patterns of the television news, which led the favelas to emerge in these narratives as if in opposition (or resistance) to the news bulletin. Thus, the news bulletin can be seen as having an unstable identity, far away from what is said in its editorial line.
Keywords: television, news, narrative, favelas.
