Abstract

This article is a reflection that aims at understanding the cinematographic sign in the development of its semiosis, that is, its action as a hybrid sign. What we intend to do is to observe the exchanges and inter-relations of the three matrixes of language: the sound, visual and verbal ones, as they appear, operate and are engendered within the cinematographic language, and to revisit certain issues which have not quite been solved regarding the construction of discourse brought about by the assemblage, without losing sight, however, of the intersemiotic complexity this process is immersed in. We have used Charles Sanders Peirce’s (1839-1914) Semiotics as our main theoretical reference, as well as of Lucia Santaella’s book, Matrizes de linguagem e pensamento (2001) as a source contributing to this study.

Key words: cinema, semiotics, language, assemblage.
