Abstract

Contemporary criticism has expressed the relevance of the “scotopic vision” (or “vision of darkness”) in the Aristotle ́s visual theory. He has framed this phenomenon in the perception, or self-perception, of sensitive knowledge, which presupposes granting reflective consciousness to this knowledge. The possibilities in this regard are reduced to one alternative: perceiving darkness is due to external sensitivity (one’s own sight) or due to internal sensitivity (fantasy or common sense), with all possible combinations and distinctions.

Keywords: Aristotle, scotopic sigh, psychology, contemporary philosophy.
