This article analyzes the operationality of the relationship between high school and work as a governing device for the young population in Mato Grosso do Sul between 1961 and 2021. Based on the genealogy proposed by Michel Foucault, it adopts the analysis of enunciations and practices that sustained this strategic articulation, mobilizing the concepts of dispositif (in dialogue with Gilles Deleuze), government, and discourse. It examines diverse sources to understand how this device operated in two historical configurations: one focused on mandatory professional qualification and the other on preparation for immaterial labor. The results indicate that the relationship between high school and work during the specified period is not fixed but reconfigures itself according to political, economic, and social shifts, shaping the subjective regulations of young people. The analysis highlights tensions in the educational field, as well as the disputes and resistances that traverse this historical device.
