The metaphysical foundation of the ethics of compassion with the negation of the will
Keywords:
Schopenhauer, Metaphysics, Ethics, Compassion, WillAbstract
This article analyzes the foundation of ethics in the work On the Foundation of Morals by Arthur Schopenhauer. It keeps the focus on the ethics of compassion--which was the concern of the 19th century philosopher--inferred from a metaphysical foundation without a telos. This moral motivation will be demonstrated on the basis of axiological elements, keeping the discourse distant from any investigation that might be considered enlightened. As to the metaphysical discourse, the article discusses the will and its negation.
