This paper aims to analyze the relationship between the progress of the arts and sciences and the corruption of virtue in Rousseau's Discourse on the Arts and Sciences For this purpose, we strive to establish the meaning of the concept of virtue in this work, which retakes the republican tradition. Finally, by analyzing Rousseau's replies to the criticism of his work, we seek to argue in favor that the philosopher does not intend to eliminate the arts and sciences from modern society.
