Hegel. Concrete freedom. Formal universality.Abstract
In his Philosophy of Right, Hegel exposes the ethical sphere of civil society as the one in which the particularistic determination of concrete freedom develops. However, this development takes place only through formal universality. The present paper intends to expose the concept of formal universality in order to distinguish it from the universalistic determination of concrete freedom, as well as to expose how it operates within the moments of the “Nature of Needs and their Satisfaction” and the “Nature of Work” aiming to develop the particularistic determination of concrete freedom. Finally, other moments of civil society will be presented, which allow a better understanding of the distinction between the particularistic and universalistic determination of concrete freedom.
