Categorização gráfica e funcional na aquisição da escrita e da leitura em língua materna

Resumen

This article aims to study three important factors in the decipherment of our writing system, that must be completely understood by the agents of literacy process (students and teachers), in order to make the process happen adequately: acrophonic principle; graphic categorization and functional categorization. The functional categorization controls either the acrophonic principle and the graphic categorization, being the correct association of letters and sounds, choosing only one among several possibilities. Since the correct word representation is given by spelling (orthography) and not by any kind of phonetic transcription, it is possible to say that the functional categorization is defined and governed by the official orthographic rules.
