Dictionary typologies: lexicon records, principles and technologies
Abstract
This article contextualizes the applied and theoretical profile of Lexicography as an area of Applied Linguistics. It highlights the complexity of the dictionary production and the existence of a great dictionary typology. It also studies the methodological differences of its composition and also the influence of information technology on the dictionary production. It analyses the general characteristics and the purpose of the monolingual dictionary, the most prototypical kind of work produced by Lexicography and also of dictionaries with special focus on morphology and etymology.
