Literacy in and beyond the school?
Abstract
This paper aims at showing that literacy is a process that has to be studied in and beyond school. Its first part explains the concept of literacy that underlies the whole text. The second part is based on a previous research on language development about how children build an autonomous narrative and the spatial representation of a story, which is not present in all children’s narratives at the age they start formal education at school. In the last part the pedagogical implications of the concept of literacy and the findings on spatial representation are discussed, particularly considering textual production at school.
Key words: literacy, autonomous narratives, school context.Downloads
