The representation of the discourse of the other: a multiple heterogeneous field
Abstract
This paper thematizes the representation of the discourse of the other (RDO). Under the perspective of the theory of enunciative heterogeneities, this expression designates the field commonly known as “reported speech”. The RDO is described as a phenomenon permeated by heterogeneity, which is part of reflexivity, one of the essential properties of human language. Thus, the RDO is situated in the embracing field of metadiscursivity (discourse about discourse), but can not be taken as the self-representation of the saying as it is being formed.
Key words: representation of the discourse of the other, represented heterogeneity, constitutive heterogeneity, enunciation, metadiscursivity.Downloads
