Giving voice to worker’s discourse: real activity and language
Abstract
Based on a brief methodological discussion about the Ergonomic Work Analysis, this study aims at evaluating the role of workers’ discourse during each stage of an ergonomic intervention. We discuss how work and language practices are related and show how essential it is to have access to what workers say. Through discourse analyses, the ergonomist is able to understand activities constraints, in order to transform the work. We indicate how the studies on language practices may co-operate with the ergonomic intervention. Our conclusion is that, if we use two fields of knowledge to understand the real activity, it will be necessary to discuss the limits of the knowledge and concepts used in ergonomic practice.
Key words: work, discourse, ergonomics, real activity.Downloads
