This research aimed to describe longitudinally the patterns of social networks, in the perspective of Small Worlds, publications of the stricto sensu programs that have evolved to levels of international excellence (CAPES 6 and 7) in the line of business strategy. The universities UFRJ, FGV/RJ, FGV/SP, UNISINOS, and USP were targets of the research. For data collection and tabulation, we used UCINET 6 software and Wordclouds. The results described the evolution of the programs to the level of international excellence and also demonstrated that co-authoring networks can be used as a strategic tool for the programs to identify the gaps to be filled for evolution at the level of excellence. The study contributes to the expansion of the literature of stricto sensu programs in Administration as it describes the paths adopted by universities at publication level, citation and co-authorship to achieve levels of excellence.
