Vol. 22 No. 1 (2026): JAN-DEZ

Editorial – ArquiteturaRevista, v. 22, n. 1 (2026)

Issue v. 22, n. 1 (2026) of ArquiteturaRevista brings together six articles that range across the history and theory of design, architectural education, relations with the visual arts and urban planning. The issue also features the first article of the Thematic Section: Architecture, Urbanism and Digital Space in the Context of Climate Emergencies.

Opening the issue, Chayane Galvão and Jonathas Magalhães Pereira da Silva, from PUC-Campinas, present "Arquitetura hospitalar e processo coletivo na obra de Irineu Breitman" (Hospital architecture and the collective process in the work of Irineu Breitman). The article challenges the idea of the architect as a solitary author and presents Breitman's work as the result of a collective and interdisciplinary process. As noted in the peer reviews, the text reaffirms the architect as a mediator and articulator of collective intelligence and highlights the importance of one of the leading names in healthcare architecture in Brazil.

In "Sobre o projeto arquitetônico: práticas argumentadas" (On architectural design: argued practices), Renato Leão Rego, from the State University of Maringá (UEM), discusses how architects design today. The article argues for an architecture rooted in place and in its social context, as opposed to generic and universal solutions. Its strengths include a solid theoretical review and a well-chosen set of contemporary works that bridge theory and built reality.

From the University of Zaragoza (Spain), Aurelio Vallespín Muniesa, Luis Agustín Hernández and Javier Domingo Ballestin present "Los fondos en Joan Miró como proceso de construcción espacial" (Joan Miró's backgrounds as a process of spatial construction). The authors examine how the backgrounds of Miró's paintings and ceramic murals construct pictorial space, in dialogue with Cubism and with Early Christian mosaics.

Jenifer da Rosa Godoy and Betina Tschiedel Martau, from PROPAR/UFRGS, analyse in "Lighting Education: a curricular analysis of public architecture courses in Brazil" how lighting is taught in public Architecture and Urbanism programmes. The study reveals significant disparities in course hours and content. The reviewers highlight the academic relevance of the manuscript, particularly in light of the debates prompted by the new National Curriculum Guidelines and by the climate crisis.

In "Entre o Guaíba e o Tâmega: a crítica do lugar nos museus de Álvaro Siza" (Between the Guaíba and the Tâmega: on Álvaro Siza's critical approach to place in museum architecture), Vanessa De Conto and Ana Elisa Moraes Souto, from UFSM, and Sabine Ritter De Paris, from UFFS, compare the Iberê Camargo Foundation and the Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art. The article shows that Siza's architecture cannot be reduced to language or style, but asserts itself as a critical process, in contrast to the logic of spectacle architecture.

Closing the issue and opening the results of the Thematic Section, the article "O rio em fragmentos: análise das legislações urbanas municipais ao longo do rio Piranga (MG)" (The river in fragments: analysis of urban municipal legislation along the Piranga River, MG) is authored by Liz Fagundes Oliveira Valente and Teresa Cristina de Almeida Faria (UFV), Maressa Fonseca e Souza (MCTI) and Ana Luiza Soares (UFV). The authors show how the fragmentation of municipal legislation on riverbanks exposes urbanised areas to flood risk. The reviewers highlight the consistent empirical basis and the use of cartography as the main strengths of the work.

Launched in response to the urgency of the extreme climate events that struck Rio Grande do Sul, the Thematic Section will continue and be concluded in the next issue, with articles currently in the final stages of review and editing.
