Abstract

This article presents an initial approach to conceptualize solidarity economics in the Bolivarian Alternative for Our America (ALBA for its acronym in Spanish Alternativa Bolivariana Para Nuestra América). It presents some concepts of solidarity economics and a model of ALBA, and analizes processes and practices that fit into these definitions. Then, it locates this conceptualization within the context of regional integration and endogenous development with social inclusion. Last, it considers some of the conceptual tensions in the solidarity economics’ theory and in the relation solidarity economics-twenty-first Century socialism.
