Abstract
Aspects of Coal Culture in Criciúma, SC: The Untold History, digs deep into the history of coal in Criciúma. Enriched with voices from the past, this article shares a collective memory of life that remains buried in time. Journeying through the different coal cycles of the region, this article explores many silenced aspects of not only daily life, but also life deeper within the workforce. The seldom heard voice of the female mining workforce is given a platform from which to share its story. Truths about society and environmental health are uncovered beside those of religiosity and inevitable death. These aspects have impacted the local culture, and through revealing these truths, attention will finally be brought to the necessary literature and the limited scientific production that still remains in this field.
