Research on political scandal: Overview of 10 years

This article presents an overview of research on political scandals between the years 1998 and 2008. In the survey in international databases, academic journals and conferences in Brazil, we identified the growing interest in the subject that arouse among researchers, especially in the area of communication. The analysis also identified three theoretical proposals, from sociology and phenomenology, which help to understand the nature and the characteristics of a scandal. Such approach provides a model that serves as an important starting point for analyzing this type of event, increasingly present in the media and in the political agenda.
