In this article we analyze the process of sacralization of religious films. This process is observed in the behavior of producers and actors (Cecil B. DeMille, Sidney Ollcott, Mel Gibson, George Stevens, etc.) during the film’s production and in the behavior of viewers as they watch it. The article also discusses the social use of these media products. It asks whether Burkhardt’ concept of sacred art applies to religious films.
Key words: cinema, religious movie, behavior, sacred art.
