Dressing the street: Fashion, communication & metropolis
Abstract
This article presents a theoretical reflection about the meanings of the creation in fashion, its symbolic and ideological aspects and the confluence with contemporary urban culture (street) in the two last decades of the 20th century. Its goal is to elucidate the cultural meanings of fashion conceived by present vanguard designers and to discuss some political, aesthetic and ideological aspects, which constitute it and distinguish it from the fashion of previous decades. Above all, it investigates fashion as a communication form that talks about realities and abstractions of experience in current society. The discourse of this fashion is presented through the work of designers selected because of their importance in this context.
Key words: fashion, communication, contemporary urban culture.Downloads
