Moral enhancement and neuroethics: A review of the neuroscientific literature on the neural mechanisms of altruism

The purpose of this article is to carry out an up-to- date review of the research on the neural mechanisms involved in altruism and altruistic punishment. The focus of my research centers on articles published from 2011 to 2015 trying to show some of the advances that have been made in the research in this area. The knowledge of the neural mechanisms involved in moral attitudes is important for the development of classic moral enhancement, through education, and might be the first step to achieve, in a nearby future, basic forms of biotechnological moral enhancement via neuropharmaca or brain stimulation.
