Abstract

The paper presents the results of the monitoring of underground water and superficial lagoons nearby the São Pedro da Aldeia (RJ, Brazil) open dump. Six piezometers, three lagoons and one water hole were utilized to obtain the samples. Results of field measures of pH, conductivity, redox potential and laboratory analyses of Cl-, Na+, K+, e NH4 + are presented. Results show the open dump influence on superficial and underground water, after 17 years of operation, reaches between 150 and 200m of distance, with no attenuation.

Key words: open dump, contamination, water resources, São Pedro da Aldeia (RJ).
