this study aims to discuss black and quilombola identities in the context of early childhood education, to understand the perceptions of 4- and 5-year-old children regarding their own identity and how schooling has dealt with this issue. The participating children were from the 2018 pre-school class of the Maria de Arruda Muller Quilombola State School, located in the Abolição community, in Santo Antônio de Leverger (MT). Methodologically, it is a study of qualitative approach, anchored in the ethnographic method and action research, whose main data collection instruments were participant observation and the implementation of a project on positivization of Black identity. The results pointed out that the absence of positive reference to black and quilombola identities negatively impacts the identity construction of children, with political, economic, and social consequences.
