Sharing the meaning of being a novice researcher in a degree course in education

Abstract

This study discusses classroom situations which provide insight into the experience of being a novice researcher undertaking a course in Report Writing, as part of a degree course in Education in the Teacher Training Faculty in the city of Petrolina, in 2003. This faculty is part of the University of Pernambuco. Based on humanistic psychology and adopting a phenomenological approach, the study made use of written accounts from students of their experiences. Data were also gathered through participative observation, making use of a field diary. The Person Centred Approach elicits a process of internal and external changes, leading the novice researcher to perceive himself or herself as a person who is investing in the acquisition of new knowledge, considering research to be a necessary part of the process of becoming a teacher. The role of researcher involves dealing with anguish, pains, desires, dreams, possibilities and limits, as part of a process within which the affective dimension.
