The aim of this article is to contribute to the discussion about dance in the Art curriculum of basic education. Focusing on two emerging issues – What place has dance been occupying in the school curriculum?, and What is being discussed about teacher training for teaching dance in school? –, it is based on bibliographic research about dance in school education (2005-2020). The selected academic works were analyzed using content analysis (BARDIN) in dialogue with recognized theoretical references for dance teaching (STRAZZACAPPA; MARQUES). Among the research findings are elements that allow us to characterize the disputes in the field of the curriculum and the signaling of the lack of adequate teacher training and dance in the teachers’ daily lives. Based on theoretical concepts that underlie this research, these findings are discussed in the interface with concerns from the field of the curriculum. It is believed that these issues will contribute to the debate about the curriculum of basic education and teaching courses.
