This study investigated the relationship between the fields of adolescent psychotherapy and evidence-based psychological practice (EBPP). A qualitative study was carried out with ten psychotherapists who work with adolescents. A semi-structured interview script was used and interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data were subjected to thematic analysis, and five themes emerged. Results indicated that participants perceive deficits in formal training and turn to practical experience and supervision for qualification. There were inconsistencies concerning the concept of adolescence, and a shallow knowledge about EBPP was evidenced. Participants recognize a gap between the fields of psychotherapy and research, making it difficult to integrate knowledge produced by both areas. Results suggest it is important to bring scientific research and psychological practice together in order to qualify adolescent psychotherapy and broaden the understanding of EBPP.
