Abstract

In an increasingly networked society, students tend to learn intuitively and following multidirectional paths in search for learning experiences that are performed collectively and shared with others online. With this paper we aim at answering the following question: how can Facebook be used in English Language teaching at a public school setting in line with multilitieracies pedagogy? The theoretical framework of reference is grounded in a review of studies that have used social media in language learning experiences. The study is also based on action-research in joint work with a Public School in Itabuna, Bahia. With this study we explore on the possibilities of having classes that may use their content as a pretext for educating citizens that can work consciously and creatively in the places they live.

Keywords: multiliteracies, Facebook, English language teaching, action-research.
