Actional force in behavior inductive texts: a rhetoric-argumentative analysis
Abstract
The aim of this work is twofold; to identify some rhetoric-argumentative strategies present in potentially inductive behavior texts and to show that the textual aspects are constrained by the social activity to which they are related. Considering that these texts have an actional force that may guide the interlocutor´s way of acting/ thinking, we try to identify how the textual construction of the image of the enunciative instances –ethos – can confi rm this force. Preliminary analysis of selected excerpts demonstrates that the linguistic resources used for the construction of the textual ethos is heterogeneous and is strongly constrained by contextual elements. The excerpts were obtained from institutional texts belonging to the religious - the book of Exodus chapter 20 - and the political /juridical - the Preamble of the Portuguese Republic Constitution - social activities.
Key words: actional force, behavior inductive texts, institucional texts, rhetoric-argumentative strategies, textual ethos.
