Growth and concentration of the agricultural production in the state of Rio Grande do Sul from 1970 to 1996

Abstract

This paper shows the regional growth resulting from the main agricultural products produced in Rio Grande do Sul between 1970 and 1996. The analysis is based on regional units and aims at pointing out the regions that showed the higher income growth rates caused by these products, the main products responsible for this growth, the spatial concentration of production and its link with growth rates. The paper presents as the main result the spatial concentration of the regional growth on the basis of the agricultural sector.
