Study on the stone sector in Soledade (RS, Brazil) from the perspective of the theories of industrial districts

Abstract

The municipality of Soledade (RS, Brazil) features in its economic performance results from the activities of stones industrialization, with historical participation of companies of different  sizes and conditions that stand out in production and national and international sales. The study aims to analyze the chain in which companies are involved mapping the performance of their activities, innovation and learning characteristics, from the perspective of industrial district theories. By collecting inloco, the study shows that the region is at an initial cycle stage industrial district, presenting, according to the literature, some characteristics typical of the region and identification with the industry sector, keeping connections and relationships among participants. It was also noticed cooperation aspects, labor division, and symbiosis between society and the productive units. The study conclusion shows some perspectives seen from the systemic viewpoint of the activities developed, with the purpose of contributing to those interested in relations, industrial districts and strategies.
