Resumo

This article explores different aspects of the debates that emerged around the book México, la lucha por la paz y por el pan (1951), written by Frank Tannenbaum and published by the journal Problemas Agrícolas e Industriales de México. These controversies involved various actors from the political and intellectual spheres, who sought to position themselves in the public arena through their participation. Although historiography has largely focused on discussions related to industrialization, this article highlights the broader scope of the debate, which also encompassed topics such as nationalism, the institutionalization of various academic disciplines, and Mexico’s democratic conditions. The aim of this article is both to question certain historiographical practices and to shed light on the dynamics of public debates at the beginning of the Latin American Cultural Cold War.
