Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the implementation of state and university systems for the training of public health physicians during the 20th century in Argentina. They were designed to train technical and administrative agents to meet the demands posed by public health and improve the teams that already held positions in the health system. For this we focus, mainly, on two experiences that occurred in Buenos Aires after the Second World War. On the one hand, the creation, in 1947 and in 1959, of two schools of public health dependent on the national Ministry of Public Health and whose main objective was to improve the performance of technical, professional or auxiliary personnel and achieve their specialization in health matters. On the other, the foundation of a post-graduate institution in 1958, the School of Public Health of the University of Buenos Aires.

Keywords: public health, public health physicians, professional training.
