“Freedom is won by fighting.” The Chilean trade union movement against the Pinochet regime

Abstract

The article aims to analyze critically the role played by the trade union movementin the struggle for the recovery of democracy. We hold that trade unionism wasone of the main references of the opposition, developing an active work that reflectedimportant degrees of diversity and dynamism that question approaches of the socialsciences, which account for a situation of crisis and passivity of the trade union movementduring the Pinochet regime.
