“Between the lines of history”: sensitivity and exclusion in narratives on madness
Abstract
This article briefly discusses the legitimacy of search for sensitivities of a past time in literary sources – in this case, in narratives on madness. The mad persons themselves tell us their stories, expresses their sensitivity about their illness, about the environment that involves and excludes them and about the world where they live in. Three literary works about madness and admission in psychiatric hospitals illustrate these issues.
Key words: sensitivity, cultural history, madness, social exclusion, psychiatric hospitals, literary narrative.Downloads
