Experiences of life, experiences of madness: some stories about women admitted to the São Pedro Psychiatric Hospital, in Porto Alegre, RS (1884-1923)

Abstract

This paper analyzes information about patients admitted to the Hospício São Pedro in the city of Porto Alegre ad remained there, emphasizing the women and their trajectories in this mental institution between 1884 and 1923. Its goal is to understand how the physical ad cultural attributes and the life experiences of women admitted to that mental institution were conjugated in the construction of their experiences of madness.
