Abstract

This article reflects on the work of the French philosopher, Michel Foucault, emphasizing the theoretical debate about aspects of the reception of his work by contemporary historians. It assumes that Foucault’s thought had a contradictory influence on historians, i.e., some accepted it, while others rejected it. To make that reflection, the author appropriates Foucault’s main works and situates them in terms of their influence on his own practice as a historian.

Key words: Foucault, reception, historians, historiography.
