Between memories and (ethnic) identities

Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on some specific relations between the process of constructing memories and that of constructing ethnic identities. Springing from ethnographic research carried out between 1997 and 2001 in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), our objective is to understand how the process of reclaiming Italian belonging is developed and how memories interact with such mechanisms.
