The article shows an interview with the highest authority of the Superintenden- cy of Public Education during the Popular Unity government (Chile, 1970-1973): Iván Núñez.Intheinterview,threerarelyworkedtopicsinthehistoriographyofeducationare addressed: the Latin American nature of the educational policies of Salvador Allende’s government, the main guidelines behind these initiatives and the tensions between the educational approaches and the cultural ones. This work seeks to provide some elements to enrich the understanding of a key moment in the recent history of Chile, a process that had a great resonance beyond its borders.
