Abstract

The article makes a brief analysis of the Regulations for the Exercise and Discipline of the Infantry Regiments of the Armies of His Most Faithful Majesty, written by Count Schaumburg-Lippe and published in 1763. This Regulation is an important part of a series of royal acts which proposed to reform the Portuguese military structure throughout the second half of the 18th century. The article highlights the potential of the document in question and, through a historiographical review, discusses the period of its publication. It is an exercise in which the virtuality of a source will be explored, seeking to understand it in its multiple contexts, both in the writing of the document and in studies in the area of ​​Military History.
