Influence of the particle size of cellulose waste in ceramic material properties
Abstract
This work evaluates the effect of using a cellulose waste as raw material for ceramic production when incorporated to two Southern Brazil clays used for the production of building materials. The waste in this case is sludge from the paper production in an industrial plant. The ceramic masses were prepared using 0, 5, 10, 20 and 40%wt of waste. The ceramic mixes were pressed, dried (at 110°C) and burned in laboratory electric oven at 850, 900, 950 and 1000ºC. The ceramic bodies were characterized according to their physical and mechanical properties. The results showed that the effect of the incorporation of cellulose waste with Æ>0.6 mm in their properties is not significant in relation to Æ> 4.8 mm, then it was concluded that it is unnecessary and expensive process for use in the production of ceramic red.
