Abstract

The article discusses, historically, professional qualification of teachers who work in nursery, taking as object a day care located into a university in São Paulo, focusing experiences that occurred with this group during academic formation. We bring these professionals’ memories, in a dynamic of research production that uses interviews, and, in a complementary way, documents from the institutional archive. The research falls within the history of teacher education reflecting on policies and cultures of teacher training. As a result, it is verified how the deponents link their work experiences and academic experience, revisiting their practices and promoting the emergence of new meanings for their careers and the pedagogical work. At the end, we reflect on the search for a professional identity in early childhood education, especially in relation to the care of children from 0 to 3 years old.
