Abstract

This article presents a critical review of the literature on the topic socialization of beginner professors. To this end, articles published between 2004 and 2014 were selected by SciELO and Google Scholar with the descriptors “university professors”, “socialization of university professors”, “novice professors”, “teaching in higher education,” and “teacher’s work university”. In the review, the following thematic descriptors were built: the theoretical location of the revised research, the methodologies used, the results and conclusions in chronological order of publication. Among the main findings, according to the literature reviewed, are: academics have few training programs in universities, the source professions may have greater impact on the professional practice than the university pedagogy, resilience exerts a positive influence on the process of socialization and academic institutions play a limited role in the entry of new professors.

Keywords: college professors, socialization, college.
