Issues of validity and reliability in qualitative research
Abstract
This paper discusses issues related to the importance, for educational researchers, of establishing standards of quality in educational research projects. It begins by presenting basic concepts related to the quality of scientific research in social sciences, in order to defend the importance of the establishment of standards both for quantitative and qualitative research projects in educational settings. Finally it discusses some strategies to be pursued during the qualitative research process in order to guarantee the credibility of research findings of interpretative studies in particular and the quality of educational research findings in general.
