Abstract

Technological development is inseparable from the ethical and political implications. From important dilemmas of participation in the contemporary city identified – the capture of the sharing of decisions in authoritarian processes, the real and illusory commitment that digital culture provides for the autonomy of individuals and collectives -, it is considered that the lens of technopolitics can be useful to understand its historical trajectory, contextualize its contemporary condition and allow a more informed appreciation of the choices for the future. In this sense, we sought to build a narrative about the technopolitics of participation through a genealogical study, identifying theoretical orientations, practical experiences, and legal and historical frameworks from reference literature, compilations of practices and websites of projects and authors. The result is a timeline, made available online and interactive, in which five milestones were identified, taking into account the main technopolitical innovations observed: participation for citizenship, participation for autonomy, community participation, institutionalized participation and networked participation. The study reinforces the crucial role of information in the development of participation technopolitics and highlights opportunities and challenges that networked participation offers for its democratization.
