This paper examines the intersection of architecture and digitization, focusing on the creation of spaces in the metaverse. It addresses the challenge of designing immersive environments that emulate real-world interactions while fostering self-actualization and creativity. The study employs five key concepts—parallax, everted space, circumvent space, the Proteus effect, and the holographic universe—to analyze how digital technologies reshape architectural design. Methods include exploring kinesthetic perception, avatar-influenced spatial navigation, and the merging of physical and virtual components. Parallax and everted space facilitate deeper interactions and foster creativity in virtual architectural spaces. Avatars are more than replicas, they upgrade a digital presence for the creative user-subject-designer into virtual worlds, circumventing physical limits, since consciousness and imagination surpass object-based thinking. Architectural designers can be influenced by avatar characteristics within and outside of a virtual environment, such as the Proteus effect. Furthermore, by merging the real and virtual worlds, the holographic universe accelerates human perception and creativity.
Carlos Ríos-Llamas Copyright (c) 2025 Arquitetura Revista https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26712 Wed, 17 Dec 2025 00:00:00 -0300 TO PRODUCE ARCHITECTURE IS TO EMBRACE LANDSCAPE https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/28476
Abstract
This article examines the housing complex Torres del Parque, designed by Rogelio Salmona in Bogotá, as an expression of an ethics of hospitality grounded in the interplay between architecture and landscape. Based on the categories of form, function, structure, and process — inspired by the thought of Milton Santos — it investigates how the work transcends functionalist modernism by proposing a sensitive and relational experience of urban dwelling. The article adopts landscape as a theoretical-methodological operator to understand the project not only as the outcome of geographical and historical constraints, but also as a cultural and political practice committed to hospitality. The interpretation proposes architecture as mediation between city, nature, and culture, capable of producing spaces that foster encounters, belonging, and the recognition of otherness through forms open to the territory, to the other, and to the future.
Celma Paese, Gianluca Perseu Copyright (c) 2025 Arquitetura Revista https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/28476 Wed, 17 Dec 2025 00:00:00 -0300 ARCHITECTURAL RESTORATIONS IN CHILE IN THE 1950s: https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26634
Abstract

This article addresses the first architectural restoration projects conducted in Chile. Works were overseen by the National Monuments Council (NMC) and funded by the first historic monument repair budget, allocated by the State in the mid-twentieth century. The study offers a review of works carried out between 1950 and 1954. Previously unpublished documents from the NMC archive provide meeting minutes and progress reports relating to these pioneering works, and analysis reveals that the early interventions of the 1950s were conducted in line with prevailing thought concerning restoration of monuments to the past. More specifically, this study addresses the connections between these restoration works and the fundamental concepts of the discipline as set out in the Athens Charter of 1931. This, the first international treatise of its kind, came to shape the development of the discipline during the first half of the twentieth century in Europe, and its influence reached even as far as the distant continent of Latin America.

Keywords: monuments, theory, restoration, Chile.
Maria Victoria Correa Baeriswyl Copyright (c) 2025 Arquitetura Revista https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26634 Wed, 17 Dec 2025 00:00:00 -0300 INFLUENCE OF URBAN CANYONS ON INDOOR DAYLIGHT AVAILABILITY IN TROPICAL CLIMATES https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/27767
This study investigates the influence of urban canyons on daylight availability in indoor environments in tropical regions. The analysis considered variations in canyon proportions (H/W ratios of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0), solar orientations, Vertical Angle of Obstruction (VAO), and façade reflectances. Simulations were conducted using the TropLux software for a reference room placed in different canyon configurations, with façade reflectances of 0.900 and 0.427. The evaluation was based on the following metrics: Annual Average Illuminance (AAI), Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA), and Annual Solar Exposure (ASE). Results indicate that deeper canyons reduce daylight availability, although autonomy was achieved in all analyzed scenarios. Moreover, façade reflectances significantly influenced the available illumination, emphasizing their relevance in design strategies. Excessive levels of daylight were also observed in North, East, and West orientations, suggesting the need for appropriate daylight control strategies. In this context, the study highlights the influence of canyon geometry and façade reflectances on daylight availability, reinforcing their importance in the design of buildings for tropical climates.
Luíza de Jesus Meneses, Ricardo Victor Rodrigues Barbosa, Ricardo Carvalho Cabús Copyright (c) 2025 Arquitetura Revista https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/27767 Wed, 17 Dec 2025 00:00:00 -0300 COLORS AND SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/28565
spaces. Since they make fewer daily trips and prefer shorter routes, older adults tend to be especially sensitive to their residential surroundings. Although the influence of urban space on their subjective well-being is acknowledged, there is limited research on the impact of color in outdoor public spaces for this age group —especially regarding color saturation. This study explores the immediate emotional experience of older adults in response to the chromatic atmosphere of Rodolfo Beckdorf Park in Valdivia (Chile), through Color-Emotion Walks, allowing real-time capture of color perception and associated emotions in a specific urban context. Based on the findings, levels of color saturation that tend to foster positive emotions are identified, and recommendations are proposed for the design of chromatically inclusive public spaces, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the color experience in urban environments, promoting greater subjective well-being in old age.
Sebastián Aguilar-Duhalde, Antonio Zumelzu, Marie Geraldine Herrmann-Lunecke, Elisa Cordero-Jahr, Laura Rodriguez Copyright (c) 2025 Arquitetura Revista https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/28565 Wed, 17 Dec 2025 00:00:00 -0300
