Natural disasters and the effect of globalization can make traditional architecture vulnerable. However, resilient and sustainable coastal area reconstruction can protect valuable assets for the development of the affected area. One of the principles of sustainable coastal development is to maintain a historical identity. Therefore, the image of a coastal city needs to consider and improve its identity based on the local culture. Traditional architecture, which is an expression of the traditions and culture of its people, has the potential to be developed into contemporary architecture. The Tanjung Bumi coastal area has an interesting traditional Tanean Lanjang architecture. This study aimed to identify transformative elements of Tanean Lanjang architecture within the coastal area of Tanjung Bumi so that it can be used as a basis for presenting contemporary architecture and maintaining the continuity of traditional architecture. This research is descriptive, with qualitative methods that explore the transformative elements of Tanjung Bumi Bangkalan coastal area architecture. Transformative elements that were identified included the existence of a multifunctional long yard, a rectangular house, the shape and layout of the Langgar, a porch, and columns.
Muchlisiniyati Safeyah Eva Elviana Nurjanti Takarini Fairuz Mutia Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-16 2024-04-16 19 1 1 11 10.4013/arq.2023.191.01 THE LAW OF THE MININUM, A SHARED CHALLENGE https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/24577
The metric control, functional effectiveness and constructive precision of the poblado dirigido of Entrevías (Oíza, Sierra and de Alvear, 1956-59) show a skill that is neither improvised nor instinctive, but that is based on previous experience – both the architects’ own and others’. As a “manifesto of the minimum”, Entrevías is a key witness to the influence of the Existenzminimum on post-war Spanish architecture. With this as a starting point, the article proposes to reconstruct a hypothetical – but plausible – conversation about the challenge of the minimum between Oíza himself and the Dutch architect J.J. Pieter Oud, who thirty years earlier had designed the iconic working-class neighbourhood of Kiefhoek. The interest of this parallel analysis lies in delving into a relationship that has been mentioned many times before but has never been studied in depth. It is therefore a matter of drawing lines of continuity and rupture between two similar architectural challenges born from very different historical-cultural contexts, in order to, ultimately, shed a new light on that specific, cumulative and systematic body of research produced by Modern architecture around the minimum dwelling, which continues to be used as a fundamental reference for designing contemporary housing.
Isabel Rodríguez Martín Guiomar Martín Domínguez Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-08 2024-04-08 19 1 12 30 10.4013/arq.2023.191.02 URBAN INSERTION PARAMETERS https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/25568
Urban development and the right to the city play a vital role in the formation of neighbourhoods and people’s quality of life. However, although most of today's population lives in cities, actions to ensure proper urban insertion (UI) of housing estates are still scarce, especially those considered as social interest developments. Several studies developed in Brazil highlight UI problems for social housing estates. The evaluation of the UI of housing catchment areas still lacks methodological deepening with applications of tools for producing measurable results. Two objectives led to the research: understand the UI of housing estates and parameters based on the literature; deepen the knowledge about UI, through a case study, based on the analysis of parameters on a metropolitan scale, and the spatial relationship of the projects with the immediate environment, considering the social impacts of UI of housing for society. A tool was consolidated based on the parameters of two studies developed by the National Housing System and the LabCidade-FAU/ USP. Results of the research should advance knowledge for the mitigation of social impacts in the formation of neighbourhoods and guide investments in the production of housing, whether as actions for inclusive urban spaces or long-term sustainable development.
Elisa A D Muianga Doris Catharine Cornelie Knatz Kowaltowski Daniel de Carvalho Moreira Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-08 2024-04-08 19 1 31 55 10.4013/arq.2023.191.03 Factor analysis of neighborhood satisfaction from individual's perception in the Brazilian context https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26464
The urban environment can be perceived in different ways by the individual, based on their needs and expectations, forming satisfaction with the environment in which they are inserted. This study intends to analyze, in the Brazilian scenario, satisfaction related to the neighborhood, based on individual perceptions. A questionnaire measured by the five-point Likert scale was developed, with variables related to the urban environment and satisfaction. A sample of 426 respondents was formed with respondents from the South, Southeast and Midwest regions. Factor analyzes were carried out in three groups: Characteristics and resources of the urban environment, Public services and maintenance and Surrounding performance. From the 53 variables initially predicted, the analyzes allowed them to be reduced to 13 factors. The results confirmed the reliability of the examined aspects, despite the geographic and cultural differences where the reference studies were carried out, and contribute to determining the main constructs that influence perceptions about the neighborhood.
Beatrice Lorenz Fontolan Aline Ramos Esperidião Iolanda Geronimo Del-Roio Alfredo Iarozinski Neto Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-08 2024-04-08 19 1 56 72 10.4013/arq.2023.191.04 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MOOD STATES AND PEDESTRIANS’ THERMAL PERCEPTION https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26492
Studies reveal that psychological aspects such as those triggered by mood states can influence subjective thermal assessment. It is investigated whether the mood state reported during the thermal comfort interviews is a psychological factor that influences the pedestrians’ thermal perception in outdoor environments. Thermal monitoring was conducted alongside the administration of questionnaires in outdoor locations in Cuiabá City - Mato Grosso State (Brazil), a region with a tropical climate. The thermal sensation vote (TSV), segmented according to the reported Mood State (neutrality, positivity, and negativity) was correlated with thermal conditions, expressed by the UTCI index. Greater thermal sensitivity was evidenced in individuals belonging to the group with negative moods, indicating that they feel more heat as thermal stress rises, wish for milder thermal environments, and declare themselves uncomfortable in thermal environments compared to those belonging to the neutral and positive groups. A higher neutral temperature and angular coefficient derived from the linear trend curve obtained between UTCI and TSV confirm this behavior of the negative group. The variance between thermal environment conditions and mood states did not explain the variation in thermal sensation between the groups, and other intervening factors in thermal perception should be considered.
Ivan Julio Apolonio Callejas Eduardo Leite Krüger Vera Cristina de Area Leão Borges Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-08 2024-04-08 19 1 73 90 10.4013/arq.2023.191.05 APPLICATION OF NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES (NLP) IN URBAN CODE https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26495
Manually checking for compliance is a resource-intensive and error-prone task. Information in regulatory codes can be extracted automatically using natural language processing (NLP) techniques, making compliance checking simpler and more reliable. Although the PLN is an emerging area, there is still a relatively small amount of research applying to the Portuguese language. This study investigates a script using NLP techniques for the pre-processing – first phase of information extraction - of a Brazilian regulatory code. For this, the Python programming language and the NLTK library were used. An accuracy of 68% was achieved the performance of the labeller, indicating the need for improvements in the pre-processing for the Portuguese language. The main contribution of this study is to allow a greater understanding of the difficulties and probable causes of label errors in the pre-processing phase.
Paulo Victor Matos Leite de Ávila Douglas Malheiro de Brito Daniele Mota Santos Emerson de Andrade Marques Ferreira Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-08 2024-04-08 19 1 91 105 10.4013/arq.2023.191.06 Integrating natural light in a university building through INI-C https://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/arquitetura/article/view/26527
Educational buildings have lighting as one of the main end uses in the consumption of electricity with significant potential for the integration of natural and artificial lighting systems. The Inmetro Normative Instruction for Energy Efficiency Classification of Commercial, Service and Public Buildings (INI-C), published in September 2022, evaluates, among other items, the energy efficiency of the electric lighting system and its integration with natural lighting. The present study compared the potential of integration of natural light by simplified and simulation methods according to the methodology proposed in a higher education building. It was concluded that, although both generate the same classification for the lighting system, the simulation method results in larger areas for the primary zones of natural lighting. As these zones may include more than one row of luminaires from the opening, it is suggested that this zone be divided into lines parallel to the opening.
Larissa Arêdes Monteiro Ludmila Cardoso Fagundes Mendes Roberta Vieira Gonçalves de Souza Carolina Lemonge Amorim Giovanna Barreto de Souza Machado Copyright (c) 2023 Arquitetura Revista 2024-04-08 2024-04-08 19 1 106 123 10.4013/arq.2023.191.07
